Stories of Change

Imran Vagher

Bar Bender & Steel Fixer

Imran, is a local resident of Sekhadiya village in Mundra, Gujarat living with his parents & siblings. Common bread and butter work for them and their community is seasonal fishing work which is unoperational during some seasons of the year leaving them to survive for food. During the awareness campaign by the ASDC team, to promote skill development & in the community, as a source of motivation and compensation for their loss of income, he realised skill development and continuous income is a must during a counselling session.

Imran is one such fisherfolk who worked as a part-time bar bender during non-fishing months. But his aspirations were different, he got skilled under the Bar-Bender & Steel Fixer along with other skills like spoken English & live skills for 3 months training program which was a confidence booster and skill polishing exercise for him.

He was offered a job worth INR 14,000/- per month which is a stable income as compared to his variable income earlier. He & his family along with the other 50 trainees from the community are thankful to the SAKSHAM parivar for the significant support which brought a positive change in their lives.

"The invaluable three-month training helped us reach from the middle of nowhere, to where we are today. Now, youth from our community are upskilled, secure & self-reliant even in tough times" said by Imran's father.
