Laxmi Patel is a 21-year-old employee of G.K. General Hospital. She confidently handles an OPD section of the hospital with the utmost responsibility and integrity. Her father was the sole earner of her family, meaning she had to make a lot of sacrifices when growing up. During her childhood, she was fascinated with the medical field. She was passionate about becoming a doctor and tried very hard to study well and score good marks. Unfortunately, she got low percentage in Std. 10, and her aspiration to study further in medical science was shattered. She decided to fight for her dream, and all she required was the right opportunity.
Laxmi got this lucky chance during the mobilisation activities of the ASDC team in Bhuj. After getting the details of the General Duty Assistant course and training, she enrolled for the course without giving it a second thought. She studied rigorously and completed the course in three months. She underwent theory and practical sessions. She also did OJT (on job training) at G.K. General Hospital. She was so good in her work that she immediately got a job offer upon clearing the exam. Her trainer, Mr. Gopal, said that she was very regular in class and passed the examination with flying colours. She was nervous on the first day of OJT but her excitement soon took over. She is well-recognised in the hospital due to her enthusiasm.
Laxmi is satisfied with her job. She has also become quite attached to ASDC. Since it is on the same premises as her workplace, she takes an active part in all the activities of the centre. Being a responsible alumna, she loves to assist the new students in their induction process starting from the hospital visit to sharing the organisation’s stories. She faced a lot of challenges and obstacles before joining ASDC in Bhuj. But, her struggle doesn’t end here. Out of seven sisters, she is the only one with a job. She wants to earn more so that her 50-year-old father can retire and enjoy a peaceful life at home. Today, she is earning Rs. 10,000 per month and has become a responsible daughter of the family.
