The Beauty & Wellness Course, for women, is one of the programmes where the Adani Skill Development Centre has registered a significant impact. This programme not only creates livelihoods for women but also yields rich social dividends by empowering and emancipating them. The skills imparted in this course enable women to work in salons or set up their own micro-enterprises offering beauty services. The idea is to encourage women to become entrepreneurs by working from their homes or in the neighbourhood. Darshana Mistry, a resident of Nava Vadaj, Gujarat, completed the Beauty and Wellness training at the Adani Skill Development Centre. Today, she is supplementing her family’s income by offering beauty treatments from home. Her initiative and enterprise have helped her to gain the respect of her neighbours and community members.
In order to inspire others by sharing her story, Darshana says, “My life before joining this course was very different. I still remember how shy and introverted I was before coming here. I live in KK Nagar in Ghatlodiya, Ahmedabad. After passing Std. 12, I couldn’t study further due to family responsibilities. Occupied with housework, it took some time to realise that my entrepreneurial dreams had remained unfulfilled. One day, I came to know about the Beauty & Wellness course offered by ASDC. Initially, I would come, sit in the class and simply observe. It took me a while to understand that to be successful one needs to come out of his or her comfort zone. I wasn't very stylish or trendy and had no dressing sense back then.”
She adds, “It’s only because of Saksham and Prerna ma’am that I am quite confident today and can learn with an open mind. I became part of ASDC, Vadaj, as an assistant trainer after completing my course in the second batch. I am quite happy to help other women like me by training them and enabling them to earn a livelihood. I truly believe that destiny and hard work go hand in hand. I feel blessed to work with ASDC, and I am determined to keep up the good work and achieve success.”
